How can I get my laptop to run another OS in UEFI?

I have a windows 8 acer laptop. I am unable to run any other OS than windows 8 in UEFI mode even if it is on another internal hard drive when the old hard drive has been removed. I tried to run Linux Mint Debian Edition and Windows 7, but I was unable to unless in legacy mode.

My goal is to be able to run windows 7 properly on the laptop.
Any help?

Solution
No disadvantages. It has mainly to do with the Secure Booting, that you can have more than four partition on a hard drive, and it will allow for Hard drives bigger than 2TB.

Unfortunately not. When in legacy mode, I am unable to boot to windows 8 and Grub only gives me the option to perform memory tests or boot to Linux Mint. I have been switching between the two when I want to use either, but when I use windows 7 I had to boot up in legacy. My windows 7 is on a separate SSD. Is there any disadvantage to using legacy? I am not gaming or doing anything intensive. Just trying to do some work and maybe watch a few videos.
