I'm looking at building a new computer to run 5760x1080 (which I already have the monitors for, they're just running off of multiple computers at this time). My initial look drew me to the GTX 760, with an excellent price/performance ratio, and though probably a bit slower than the similarly-priced 7950 at this resolution, it is a smaller, cooler card that draws less power, which gave it some points in my book.

Then I noticed that I could get a 7970 for $50 more, which according to this could give me an average of 25% better FPS at that resolution for less than a 25% increase in price. (Yes, I realize that the card in the link is the GHz edition, but according to this, that doesn't really change all that much with overclocking)

At the same time, I've heard that the 7970 is rather loud, and have been shown that it consumes a great deal more power than the GTX760. Not that I'm not going to get a power supply that could handle far more than I'm going to throw at it (already made the mistake of a bad supply on my first build. Never again.), but I do prefer to keep my heat/power consumption somewhat optimized.

So I guess what it comes down to, for me, is whether or not the 7970 is actually all that loud (in comparison to, say, a cheap box fan at low/medium), or if the GTX760 is honestly more than enough for what I intend to do (which will probably mostly be Titanfall, which is seriously awesome. Worth the 3 hour line for a single 10 minute game.)

Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to buy anything prior to Christmas, and things could change significantly by then.

Anyway, the cards that I'm looking at right now, but am completely open to other options, are:
GTX760
Radeon HD 7970

Thanks in advance!

Well, i'm posting while i'm seeking more or less the same help as you are so it wouldn't be that useful for you.

Anyway, my thinking process is maybe dumbly excluding the ATI. Their drivers sucks.

I don't count the number of Catalyst stopped working, Aero stopped working and all.

I play CS:GO on a 3 screen set up (no surround gaming but i play on the 1440p one) at almost lowest settings with ATI 7770 and yet i still have FPS drops.(okay it is a low bob one but hear me out)

On the other hand i have a 4 years old MSI n9800GT where i could play CS:GO in medium settings in 1080p without any flaws... OH and the fan is dead on that GFX too so no cooling at all....

n9800GT at the time i bought it was supposed to be a low bob one as...

Hence, in my next purchase i'm excluding all the ATI possible. Maybe better hardware, but drivers sucks let's face it.

That said i'm no hardware expert and i can back up my claims with anything better than my experience on low end cards.

If your not in a rush i think you should wait for the R9 series thats coming soon from ati which would give you a more option pool and a better outlook on how you wanna approach your setup
