my cpu wont go to oc speeds unless i use the on board button on my msi z77 mpower

my cpu is a 3570k

windows detect my 4.5ghz oc but when i use prime 95 it only stays at 3.4ghz with on genie it goes to 4.2ghz:??:

i used the same sittings i use to oc every time but now it just dosnt work anymore:(

the sittings i use on bios are

enabled
PPL over-voltage
OC genie by bios sittings(custom)
cpu raito (45)
cpu V core:1.25

disable
EIST
C-State
all power saving options
Over-speed protection

hybrid digital power
CPU Vdroob offset (100%)
digital compensation level (high)
cpu core ocp expander (enhanced )

try using AIDA64's monitoring tab. you can go under "Stress Test" tab and a window should pop up, from there you can hit the monitoring tab and it should show you the correct temperatures.

i believe RealTemp should be pulling temperatures from the CPU itself rather than what the motherboard reports just like AIDA64 but, that's just something i've read on a different forum so it may be wrong.

if AIDA64 still reports the same weird 24C on 1 core while the others are @ 40C, it's probably best if you just re-mount the CPU block (if you are using the stock thermal paste that came pre-applied on the block, remove it and use an aftermarket thermal paste like Arctic Silver 5) while making sure you don't put too much thermal paste or...

are you using any overclocking software/have any overclocking software installed? if not, if there's a DISABLE option for OC Genie in BIOS, make sure it's set to DISABLE so it won't override manually changed settings.

also, are you using a aftermarket cooler? if so, can you tell us the brand/model?

yes im using a H100I (stock fans) cpu never goes above 55C in prime @3.8ghz(turbo speed) but it idles at 40C i think it isn't showing the temps right anyways..

and no im OCing thru the bios i never use any software Bios oc is the best way

oc genie has 2 options 1 bios sittings 2- mobo button activated( i have it set to bios options but nothing happens when im on OS

the way MSI implemented LLC for there Z77 motherboards make me wanna say they intentionally wanted to piss people off lol :)

do your voltages drop too when using Prime95? if so, it may be something to do with Vdroop and digital compensation level possibly. other than that, i cant see why would CPU downclock itself to 3.4GHz...

another note, you say that the idle temps are probably not accurate, if that's true it's probably also true that your load temps aren't accurate either. what program do you use to monitor your temps?

afterwards, if it still shows huge differences, its probably that the thermal paste under the IHS of the CPU is unevenly distributed. i'd call intel and let them know what's happening.the difference between 24C and 40C is way too much imo, id try to get it RMA'd
