PC shutting down during high CPU usage

I've got a quite old pc at home, it's around 6 years old and it's been through loads of upgrades and replacements.
About a week ago it started to turn off when I was playing games. Not during startup of the game, but after a few minutes of gameplay. It also turned off when I was converting a video, and other high CPU usage tasks. So that leads me to believe that the shut down is related to the CPU overheating. But is there a chance that the problem can be with the Power Supply? I've used my pc in it's current spec since 2011 and i didn't get any heating problems, even during big stretches of gaming.
anyways here are the current specs

Intel Pentium D 945 3.5 GHz CPU
2GB Corsair XMS DDR2 800 RAM
Axle 3D GeForce GT240 1GB Video Card
450W PSU

320GB SATA Hard Drive

I bought a new CPU cooler and some thermal paste, I'll try it out and see. If the problem still persists does that mean the problem is with the PSU? Because the PSU is the OLDEST component in my PC.
Oh and I'll only be using this PC for around another 4 months, I'll get a high machine after that.

That doesn't quite look right. The idle temperatures are high and it seems odd that there would only be 15 degree increase in temperature when under load. It could be that HWM isn't working properly or whatever. I suggest you use realtemp then do something which achieves 100% CPU usage, whether running Prime95 or video encoding, then leave that going for at least 10 minutes and see what happens.

Before we start guessing at problems, I think it's prudent to rule out the obvious causes first. I suggest you download real temp ( http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/ ) then do something CPU intensive like converting a video and see what temperatures it reaches and post them here. We can go from there!

Sorry about that, my idle temps are around 55-57, load temps around 70, which is the same as two years ago. I use HWMonitor to check temps

Well during video converting it goes to like 70, but when gaming it goes to 80-85, but that is quite normal for a Pentium D right? They are known for running hot from what I've read. Anyways those temps are the same I got when I last upgraded the system in 2011, I didn't have any shutting down problems then
