Looking for an inexpensive mb and cpu to upgrade older (diy built) computer, keeping same newer hard drive with one floppy and two dvd drives. Case is atx form factor. Any advice from knowledgeable user is appreciated.
You are limited by the need for PATA and floppy connectors. I would suggest looking at an AMD 880GM-LE mATX motherboard like THIS ONE with THIS CPU. It will do web and email well and you can attach the floppy and two IDE drives. If you want more than two IDE attachments you will have to go back to much older hardware. This motherboard has on-board graphics, sound and Ethernet.
Are the two optical drives IDE or SATA? That and the floppy drive will limit your motherboard choices. Will you buy new memory? If not, what memory do you have now?

Thanks for your rapid reply. The floppy and dvd drives are ide but not sure about newer hard drive but probably ide also. Will be purchasing new ram. This is for normal usage by senior. Just surf the web and email, etc.
