Hi

Please be patient with me and my problem.

I have the WD250 HDD. My Hdd is making clicking noise and nothing happens. I am sure it is a physical problem as I am using a new Circuit board.

I am trying to recover my data (pics, movies and others) So I took out the HDD and inserted in to my caddy. It is making a clicking noise but it is not been found by my Pc. I hope I haven't damaged the HDD by doing so!!

My questions is there any way to recover these data like a software that will allow me to recover these data while my physically broken HDD is in the caddy? Is there any risk of damage to my Hdd and data while running these software and my Hdd is clicking?

I think the problem with my Hdd is the actuator!! Could you advise me on what to do next? Shall i try and freez it?

Many Thanks.

A new PCB will click because it cannot find the hidden System Area (SA) on the platters. You need to transfer the chip at U12, or its contents, from patient to donor.

If the drive clicks with the original PCB, then it is most probably a physical problem.

Clean any oxidisation from the HDA contacts on the PCB by gently scrubbing them with a soft white pencil eraser.

Does the original PCB spin up the drive?
