I'm thinking of building my own PC and I have a question
I'm going to be gaming on this PC and I know that wireless isn't the best for gaming but since I live with my family that is the best solution for us

With that said, do I need to buy a wireless adapter/card/whatever it's called (sorry for my lack of knowledge on the subject eheh) and connect it to the motherboard to use be able to access the internet? Or do motherboards come with something like that already?

PS - do I also need a sound card? I usually spend a lot of time listening to music through my headphones and I don't know if I need a sound card or not

Thanks for your help! :D

Any WiFi adapter that includes 802.11b/g/n will work.

Of course, that ignores any WiFi specific issues, such as distance, interference, cordless phones, microwaves, etc, etc.

You only need a WiFi device (PCI-E or USB) if that is your only option to connect to the house router.
There are some motherboard models with builtin WiFi.

And you probably do not need a sound card. The onboard sound is adequate, until you get into the upper reaches of music production. Try it without first.

Check this Motherboard:

Motherboard has built in Audio. no need a sound card.

I'd recommend a USB WiFi instead of PCI-E.
USB, because you can potentially move it around a little. Sometimes even moving the antenna 2 feet up or to the side makes a difference in signal reception.

Other than that....as long as it talks to the same 802.11{whatever} as your router....you should be good.

Thanks for the info!
And if it's not much to ask, how do I see that 802.11 thingy?

I know this thread is old but to help people who have the same problem, you will need to buy a wifi adaptor. The Intel AC wireless card is very fast at the moment. Also, you will not need a sound card because most motherboardds have an onboard sound card. If you are a music editor or need amazing sound quality you could invest in one but for gaming there will probably be no need. I hope this helps xD
