Hey guys. I had a question regarding processors. I'm building a $1500 gaming rig running a 7950 and an Extreme 4 mobo @ 1920x1080. I was going to go with an i5 3570k (Not the 4670k because I would like to over clock.) but at the last minute, I saw a Xeon Processor for the same price, and with better performance from the benchmarks i've seen. Is there something I'm missing? Everyone and their dog recommends the i5. I heard the Xeons are built for servers, does that have something to do with it? Please Help!

Yeah, I know about the 7950. I'm getting alot of SSD space as well as buying all my peripherals though so my build is actually about $1300. Plus the 7970 is only about 15% better for %140 the price.

Get the Xeon it is an i7 without iGPU and video sync. It will outperform i5 processors. The E3-Xeon line is most suitable for gaming, however intel doesn´t promote them for that purposes from a marketing point of view. I'm gaming with a xeon E3-1240v3; HD7850 OC 2GB; Asrock H87m-pro4 and 2x8 gigs of 1600 MHz ram. I have the H87 chipset because Z87 is for OC'ing and the xeon can't be OC 'ed so i could spend a little bit more on the GPU card. Nice thing about this system is that there still is a opportunity to upgrade it in the future since the HD7850 is clearly the bottleneck. Even the processor can be upgraded, but i don't expect me to do that.
