im building a new pc. i want to play call of duty 4, battlefield 4, skyrim (with some high res mods) and DayZ mostly.

right now i have a Pentium dual core e5300 O.C to 3GHz and a nvidia gt220 and 2gb ram. it works great for call of duty 4 maxed out and can run skyrim (no mods) with decent settings and get a very playable framerate but obviously theres no way it can run bf4 or DayZ.

now my new build will be
ASUS Crosshair V FORMULA-Z
Kingston HyperX 8GB 1600mhz
AMD FX-8350 (was going to do a intel build but got this with the mobo as a combo for a very good price.)

for the gpu i was thinking of the gtx770 but then i read that bf4 will use like 3gb of vram. i would think that would be for 1440p but i dont know and i do want to run skyrim with high res mods so i started looking at the amd 7970 3gb card. then now im also reading about amd's new gpu's the r9 280x and the r9 290x.

so right now im stuck between the
gtx 770 2gb
gtx 770 4gb
radeon 7970 3gb
or wait for amd with their new cards. the r9 280x or the r9 290x.

More about : gpu 8350 gtx 770 radeon 7970 wait gpu amd

The 7970. It's way cheaper and the perfermance difference isn't really that big.

If I was building right now, I'd wait a few weeks to see benchmarks and pricing on the new AMD cards. i think the r9 280x and r9 290 will be around the performance level of the cards you listed, with the 290x going up against the 780/titan.

Absolutely. I would wait if I were you. Because AMD has got their hands on consoles(X-Box One, PS4 all are AMD architectures) most games will be optimized for their architecture in the future(at least I hope so). So wait for a month or so and let the reviews come out andthen you might wna get that beastly R9 290X. Who knows!!
