Missing wireless adapter

I have a Toshiba Satellite that the wireless adapter seems to have disappeared. I did not replace the hard drive or make any software changes. To the best of my knowledge, it was there one minute and gone the next (it's my parent's computer so details are a little hard to come by). The Ethernet connection still works. I've tried downloading what Toshiba says is the current driver but that hasn't helped either. There is a button that turns the antenna on or off. When I press it, the light goes off for a moment and a graphic is displayed on the screen telling me that it's either on or off. There is a light on the edge of the laptop that is on when the antenna actually is on but it doesn't do anything right now. There is a a Fn+F8 to do the same thing, or at least that's what the keyboard says. When I hit the Fn key, all of the options are displayed across the top of the screen but it skips the F8 key. I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

At least you should Google the exact model + wifi card. You may have access to the card without disassembling the hole thing.

No kidding. The only thing that button does right now is display the graphic that the wireless adapter is either enabled or disabled. It doesn't actually turn anything on. There is no wireless adapter listed anywhere in device manager or in Network Connections.

Nope, there's nothing. It's like the adapter never existed. I'm inclined to quit wasting time with this and get a USB adapter. I don't think it's worth opening up the laptop and trying to fix it from the inside. I'm definitely not paying someone else to do it for me. I'm glad this has someone else puzzled too. Thanks for the input.

The other poster I think is right. If your driver didn't do anything and can no longer detect it, most likely a dead wi fi card. I would maybe suggest buying a USB wireless internet adapter.
