I have original HP computer with i7-2600, 10 gig ram, and HD 1T. I want to add a second HD as RAID1. Setup RAID in the BIOS is by Intel Rapid Storage Technology version 10.0.0.1046.

1) I have to know if i change the current setup to RAID1 and add the 2nd drive - is the information on the first drive will stay as is or erased?

2) Drive0 is partitioned to C: & D: Are the two partitions mirrored to the 2nd drive?

3) Can RAID1 be reversed to standard if I do not like it (with out rebuild of information on c:) ?

Raid 1 would be a mirrored hdd - great for backups and read speeds. Raid 0 would give you better performance though and a total of 2 tb instead of 1tb.

As with all such operations, it pays to make a backup before you begin.

That being said, make sure both hdd's are connected to the appropriate sata ports controlled by the intel raid controller and create a raid 1 array. It will take some time to build the array but your data should be fine.

Both C: and D: will both be mirrored. I believe it can be reversed fairly easily by deleting the raid array.

Making backups will give you the freedom to make mistakes and experiment with settings.
