Hi

I have a WD250 HDD. My drive has the click of death. I took it out form my pc and place it in a caddy. I really need my files stored in this hdd.

my questions is can I use the hdd Regenerator software to recover my data from my physically damaged hdd suing the caddy?

Is using the caddy while the hdd has click of death and running this software to recover my data can harm my hdd?

Many thanks.

Data recovery professionals will tell you to avoid HDD Regenerator and SpinRite. Instead clone your drive, sector by sector, using a tool (eg ddrescue) that knows how to work around bad media. Then use data recovery software on the clone.

One simple thing you could try would be to clean up any oxidisation on the PCB's HDA contacts using a soft white pencil eraser.
