So after reading a lot of your stickies on power and what you need for a friends computer I have begun to doubt my own build and wanted to run it by the people of the forums. so here is my computer
sapphire 7970

wd 1tb hd
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533
asus sabertooth 990fx r2.0
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131877
amd fx 8350
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113284
asus dvd cd player
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204
7x xigmatek xsf-f1252 fans

and eventually a cooler master hyper 212 plus with two fans

now my power supply is a corsair hx 750

now if i read everything right my psu has 62A to work with. now the video card is going to take the most power then the cpu in my case because the fx need 125w. so V x A= Watts. with that the 7970 is 500W/12V=41.67A, and the cpu need 125W/12V=10.4A. then you add 15A for the rest of the system and 5A for safety tolerances. all of that equals 72.07A now I am hoping I am doing something wrong other wise I dont have enough power for my system but it has been working fine for 6 months or so.
so there you have it.

Though Ampere current is more important than how much power you need, you are adding up recommendations from the manufactures. A HD 7970 uses about 350 Watts if you're gaming with very high quality settings, which is around 30 amps, which most PSUs can achieve no problem.

I have seen somebody have a Seasonic X series 550W PSU run your potential setup no problems at all. An idea is if you use a Kill-a-Watt...

see I am also trying to figure out if I am applying what I learned in the sticky about psu and how much amps you need. I don't think I have it quite right because according to my calculations I should not be able to run this setup but I am running it fine which means I am wrong somewhere in my calculations and understanding.

An idea is if you use a Kill-a-Watt, you can see how much your system uses up in idle, surfing, gaming, heavy rendering and multi-tasking situations, monitor it for an hour (Checking every 10 minutes) and then calculating your average wattage, then converting it to amps.

You shouldn't worry with your setup. Remember, recommendations mean nothing unless you do your thorough research. I hope this helped and relieved you of any worry.
