I recently installed a 4770k with the stock intel cooler but when I installed the stock heatsink I locked it down and then uninstalled it and put it right back on the cpu I saw that the thermal paste was partially smeared because I had to jiggle it to uninstall it. I have been getting 45C to 52C idling and 76C to 90C when under full load is this too high because I reseated the heatsink and smeared the thermal paste? Or is this normal for i7 Haswells? Do I need to get an aftermarket cooler ASAP?

90*C. under stress testing is normal for Haswells, however, it is NOT normal for gaming and typical full load usage. I would at least remove the HSF, clean the HS and the CPU with rubbing alcohol, re-install the TIM and re-install the...

Also consider a good aftermarket HSF like the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo.

Solution

HSF= Heat Sink Fan, AKA CPU Cooler

Video rendering is very CPU intensive and will most definitely stress the CPU very heavily.
