Help me choose a GPU

Hello, I now have the AMD 7850 but it doesn't cut it. I want to run ALL games on ultra nicely and be future proof. Keep in mind I will NOT be buying a GPU until December. I know that Radeons next series is coming out before then and my price range is about $300. As of now my choice would be the 7970 Sapphire but when the new cards come prices will drop so I could get a better card for the money. I know the 280X will be about $300 but is this card better than the 7970 for sure? If the 7990 drops to $300 should I get it over the 280X? It pretty much comes down to at the time of purchase, whichever one, out of the 280X, 7990, and 7970 GHz, is $300 correct? I just want to insure I will be able to play all games on ultra with fps above 40. My CPU will be the i5 4670, PSU will be the TX750 so I can uprgrade GPU's in the future and not have to upgrade my PSU as well. Please Help

So basically just wait for the new cards to come out and make my decision then, when I actually can see frames and such?

In 2+ months there likely won't be any 7970's left. The prices on 7000 series cards are severely slashed, they are blowing them out! The Hawaii cards will have better architecture, but they are still 28nm technology. It will take a sledge hammer approach to beat the 7970 by any useful amount... more wattage. You'll need the 270 watt R9-290x and $600 dollars.

Well first off, the 7990 wont hit $300 for a while. i just started seeing the 5970 hit that point. the 280X i believe is a re branded upgraded 7970 so that's nearly pointless. the 290x could be $400-600 so if you had to get a new card right now the 7970 is your best bet but even the 7970 is showing a little age like in tomb raider with the game 100% maxed out you will get around 45fps. So either get a 7970 or dish out the money for the next flagship Radeon. I'm Radeon biased but are you? Nvidia cards aren't bad but considering all consoles use amd hardware and will use mantle and be optimized in OpenCL and OpenGL in which the GTX's are kinda week in that department.

What do you mean "there won't be any left"? Manufactures will keep putting more stock out and the price won't go down so severely that they they will be $200? Also, what does 28nm technology mean? I am not a big tech guy I just know the basics lol

Like I said I am not purchasing until December. Also, what do you mean when you say it's pointless to have an upgraded 7970? If the 280X is better than the 7970 I will just get it because no matter the price drops, my range is $300 and that is the price for the 280X so it's basically like I am waiting a few months and getting a better 7970 for the same money right?

not really im sure the 280x will cost more than the 7970 by December. "not really" by just a slightly overclocked 7970. it would be cheaper to get a 7970 and overclock it yourself

So perhaps a 7970 GHz edition OCed would be better and cheaper than a 280X?

probably not better more like on par with it. depends how overclocked they are. for most people budjet is an issue but if you can dish out the money for water cooling, idoubt you will go back to air. i have my 7970CF cards at 1470 core and 1600 on the memory. 1 word......boss

Looks like you have quite the setup. Have you ever just had one 7970? if so, did it preform well? Would you recommend it?

Absolutely. I've only had the 2nd 7970 for about a month now. I put the 2nd 7970 when i had to drain my loop. But i was still completely happy with one 7970, still blows threw anything right now.

Alright, so no matter what choice I make upon purchasing, I should be set for a while. Thanks
