Prime95, how long is the short test.

Solution
as long as it takes for your cpu to run it. generally a modern cpu should be able to knock out a single run in 3-5minutes... but understand prime95 really starts at that first run through... any cpu that loads into windows and runs like there is no issue in games or programs will crush that first pass. It's what happens over the next 2-12 hours that matters... and will tell you if your cpu/motherboard/ram/psu/cpu cooler/case airflow is really up to snuff or not. a completely stable system will be able to run prime95 pretty much indefinately without a crash... if you can go 8+ hours your system won't crash for a hardware issue... pretty much ever.

Here's my rig, bought a used:

I7 920, (D0 revision)
Mobo: EVGA x58,3sli, 131gt E767
2x nvidia gtx470 (only dual SLI)
Gskill 6x 2GB ddr3 1600, 9-9-9-24, 1.5-1.6v

You think this will take awhile?
OCed @ 3.6Ghz
It's beena 2 hours already, all is passed so far.

87Celsius is the hottest.

Thnx for your reply by the way.

87C is hot enough. i'd stop the prime95 run. clearly you need better cpu cooling or case airflow if you plan on overclocking or whatever... generally when you get up around 90C you know the system is at it's thermal limits. so you learned 2 things from the prime95 run. 1) your system is stable at it's current settings and 2) you need a better cpu cooler if you want to overclock your cpu any further

lol, I just saw that my Hyper threads were the reason behind extra heat. Now that it's off, My idle temps are:
in the 40's @ 3.8GHz.
I'll update on the stress test.
