I am looking to buy a new monitor for my pc. I currently use a 24" and like it pretty well but I want to get a larger one. My butdget is about $200 though I have seen that isn't quite going to cut it so I have had to add a little bit to it. I've come down to 4 different selections 1 being an actual pc monitor and the other 3 being T.V.s. I tried a tv for a monitor once before but it showed in really poor quality and just looked nasty. I couldn't even read text. Knowing that I have been a little apprehensive about using a tv as a monitor again. I would be using whatever I get as my primary monitor, not only to game but also to read the news and browse the internet so I don't want a monitor that would be great for gaming but poor for everything else. In other words, if I go with the TV I want it to show in as good quality as a monitor. Any other suggestions are welcome as well.

Lol why is that an easy choice? Would the T.V.s not be clear even though they are 1080p? Would a T.V. with 1080p be just as clear as a computer monitor? I was hoping to get much more of an answer.

I have learned a little bit more about the whole TV as a monitor today. From what I am seeing the hz matter also. I am reading that people are saying do not do 120hz or240hz for computers as it compromises the picture quality especially in gaming. So the last of my 4 links is off the consideration though I did find one to replace it with.

No, a 27 inch 1080p monitor and a 40 inch 1080p TV would not have the same clarity. They both have the same amount of pixels, and the pixels would be much larger on a TV. I could be a little off but the DPI of a 27 inch 1080p monitor should be around 82, and a 40 inch 1080p TV would be around 55. If you are sitting far away from your TV when you use it as a monitor you would be okay, but if you were close it would look much worse than the monitor.

That makes perfect sense. Going with the 27 then. Thank you.

Agreed. I have a 47 inch TV although it's a year old now it's no were near the clarity of my 27'' Monitor. Most TV's DPI's are not close to Monitor's DPI ratio.

That is really good to know about the DPI being important as well. Thank you for the added information.
