I would love to play Skyrim with some of the enb based mods available on Skyrim Nexus. They look alot better than the steam mods, and I have a 770 gfx card. However I have read that people have had safety issues downloading from there (viruses etc.). Does anyone have any advice on how to get that great eye candy withouth so much risk?

Thanks!

Same as benjii ^^^

I use nexus and downloaded lots of skyrim mods, never had any viruses (although i have issues with my comp at mo!! but that's unrelated!) - besides you can always use a virus checker to check the files when you download them to be extra safe.

The only issue i have with nexus is that the site drops out a lot here in UK really annoying!

cheers. cole
Not sure if they scan there files or not but I use it extensively and I have had no problems. (two play throughs with vastly different mod setups all downloaded from there)

I've never heard of any problems regarding viruses and the nexus.

I've used the various nexus sites for years and never had a problem. It's well moderated and any virus files would be taken down pretty fast, however, if you're worried, just don't download anything that's brand new.

Google is your friend. The answer is clear to see by searching "Skyrim Nexus Virus". You'll then see tons of articles showing that the nexus has been hacked server side and hosts virus's for download to the gaming community on a regular basis. As in every year they host files for download that have terrible trojan virus's on them.

Here are a few links:

I'd like to add that having firewalls or virus scans do not stop a virus if it's not known by the anti virus companies. And even if they know about it they still have to reverse engineer it and figure out a way to stop it. Do not think you are safe because you scanned something. Be smart about what websites you go to. Get mywot, privdog, adblock, comodo dragon type addon's for your browser and be vigilant when going online. Don't get phished etc.

We are all infected, the best thing to do is have a good external drive to back up onto with restore points often and do a full wipe on your drives re-installing windows every 3-6 months. Have a different password for all your various online accounts. Never use your real information for social sites. Such as birthdays, addresses, phone numbers. Don't bank online, do it the old fashioned way.
