Add new access point to create second network

I have a switch coming off of modem and wired my existing wifi router to one part of house and wired new Engenius access point to other part of house. I can't configure new access point correctly. I feel like I'm getting the IP or subnet mask wrong and don't want to conflict with existing router/network. Any help would be appreciated.

why is there a switch between the modem and the router?

the AP needs to connect directly to the router and not to the switch.

this should work:

Modem -> router -> switch -> AP

Modem now in basement as it connected to phone system. Cable run to 1st floor to existing wifi router. Cable ran to 2nd floor to new access point installed in ceiling of 2nd floor.

Thanks for providing assistance.
