Hello everybody,

I intend to upgrade my video card, which I will be using for gaming in full HD.
I`m considering the following alternatives:

1. ASUS Radeon HD 7970 3072MB DDR5 [DirectCU II ROG MATRIX]

2. Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 3072MB GDDR5 Windforce 3x (Rev. 2.0)

I have read numerous reviews and benchmark results but still cannot decide what to go for.

Taking into account the current market status and the upcoming arrival of a new graphic card series from AMD, what do you recommend?

I recommend going with the 780 for the following characterestics:
1.gives you 3gb of vram sufficient for resolution upto 2560*1440
2.Has performance similar to the totan with a low cost as compared to to it.
3.you are going for gigabyte which provides one of the worlds most efficient cooling solutipn for graphic cards.
4.since it is an nvidia card it has physx which u dont find on an amd hd 7970.

This post is not exactly valid as you simply just stated statistics about the 780, however the 7970 also has the exact same statistics. (Excluding PhysX over course, however PhysX isn't exactly a helpful tool) of course the 780 itself is in general a more powerful card. However if you are gaming in full HD and are not running more then one monitor then you are better off with the 7970 simply due to bang for buck. However if you can pickup the 780 at a cheaper price then pull the trigger on the buy button. But no matter which one you buy you will be happy with your purchase.

Happy buying and gaming

Thank you both for the answers.
I decided to go for the GTX 780 which imo is the best choice at the moment.

BUT

AMD announced their new graphic card series and I’m facing a new dilemma (get the GTX 780 or wait a while to see how 290X performs). It won`t be long until aftermarket models should be available and I`m guessing a lot of people are getting some reviews ready...

Hopefully the prices will be as expected and if not, no problem the GTX 780 would still be available :)

No problem, i was gonna grab the 290X however after much inner debate i decided with buying two 7970's as i can get a lot more performance per dollar then the 290X Asus Dc2 7970 cf here we come :)
