help with low budget psu

hey guys, i am trying to build my first budget gaming pc and i picked Antec VP550P 550watts 80% efficiency for my gaming rig:

cpu: Intel Core i5-4570 3.20-3.60GHz Haswell
motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H
ram: Corsair Vengeance 8GB Dual 1600 CL9
storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB
video card: Palit GTX 650 Ti BOOST OC 2GB DDR5
power supply: Antec VP550P 550watts 80% efficiency Power Supply

also, i will be installing 3 120mm case fans

is this a good psu?
is this psu enough for my gaming rig?
i read in some other sites that some antec products could damage motherboards and graphic cards - is this true?
any advice for my rig?

i guess this is the only good and cheap psu i can find that is within my budget

Thanks in advance :)

  1. That psu is ok and will be enough to power your rig. Any psu can damage your m/b and/or gpu if it dies, not just this particular Antec.

Where are you located and what is your psu budget? THIS psu is a great buy and well made (seasonic).

  2. markwp, thanks for your answer man

im from the philippines and i dont think XFX 550W 80 PLUS is available here right now. the antec vp550p costs PHP1900 (around $45) and PHP2000 is my budget

i guess i can go over my budget but only if its worth it - Seasonic S12II 520W 80PLUS Bronze(this is around $16 more than the antec vp550p and has only 520 watts. do you think this is better?)

Seasonic without doubt. Best psu's going.

Where are you buying your parts? Link if possible.

  4. thanks again. i'll buy the seasonic then. is it ok even with 520 watts? - its a local store here in the phils.
  5. Yep, that psu will be fine with that gpu. If you can afford just a little more, THIS will give you room to grow.

  6. Ok thanks very much man. I'll try to get the 620 then :D
