Hi all, I'm thinking of swopping out my nvidia 8800GT graphics card with a sapphire 7790HD OC 1Gb card, but I'm trying to work out if my current PSU can handle it or whether I'd need to upgrade that as well. The 7790HD OC states that it needs 500w, but a bit of reading around suggests that this is usually overestimated?

Anyway, my current specs are

PSU: Antec 430w Eartwatts with 360W on the 12V line

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

Motherboard: Asus P5K-VM Motherboard

RAM: 6Gb Crucial Ballistix (2x1Gb and 2x2Gb) CL5 1.8v

Hard Drive: 2x Samsung HD501LJ 500Gb SATA drives

Plus one firewire connection, DVD-RW ATA, 2 case fans, one CPU fan

So, can my system take the 7790 HD OC?

Thanks.

your previous 8800gt got a tdp of 110w and the hd7790 got only 85w, so you are save. The recommended wattages just want to make sure that it even works with low quality psu that cant really pull the power that they got rated.
