I have recently purchased a gaming laptop because I wanted to experience true 1080p gameplay. However, when i tried to play dark souls, it said the the executable wasn't working. So i tried to play Empire total war (a game from 2009) and it was laggy as hell. I don't know how to fix it and i would really appreciate it if someone could tell me how to fix it. My specs are: Intel Core i7-4700MQ Mobile Processor (4x 2.4GHz/6MB L3 Cache), NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M 2GB GDDR3 Video w/ NVIDIA Optimus [W650SR], 8gb of ram, and it is running on windows 8. As aforementioned any help would be greatly appreciated as i have paid of $1000 dollars on this laptop.

Solution
the problem is your expectations. a 740m is a terrible gpu about on par with the igpu on that intel i7, it WONT and can't game in 1080p. its good enough to watch movies and websurf in 1080p, but it won't game. not a modern game anyway.

it would probably struggle to game modern high end titles in 1366x768, to say nothing about 1080p. live and learn. just because a company advertises a laptop as "gaming" doesn't make it a gaming laptop. to get a true 1080p gaming laptop you'll need to spend a bit more then $1000

Hey man, thanks for being honest. However, there is a 30 day money back guarantee, so do you think i could by a decent desktop for somewhere around $1000? I'm still kind of new at this so if you could help me avoid making another mistake it would be great. :)

Can you give me a link for a pre-built one or a link to the parts for one? I just really want to get into PC gaming and see true 1080p.
