Video of the problem occuring. Sorry my monitor is filthy.

Hi guys, been having some issues recently with my HIS 6970HD 2GB IceQ Turbo, at least I think its that - as you can see from about 5 minutes into the video above my display grey screens and restarts you guys got any ideas what's up with it?

The drivers are up to date as of this moment in time, but I have cleaned them out and installed older ones to try and solve this issue myself...and you can see how that went.

My Spec's are:


  • Chieftec A-135 Series 750W Modular 80plus Certified PSU with 14cm Fan
    AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz Socket AM3 6MB L3 Cache Cache 125W Retail Boxed Processor
    Asus M4A785TD-V EVO 785G Socket AM3 onboard DVI VGA HDMI 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard
    HIS HD 6970 IceQ Turbo 2GB GDDR5 Dual DVI Dual Mini DisplayPort HDMI PCI-E Graphics Card
    Sony AD-5240S 24x DVD±RW & DL SATA Optical Drive - OEM Black
    OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz Obsidian Memory Kit 1.65V CL9(9-9-9-24)
    Kingston 2GB DDR3 1600MHz HyperX Blu Memory CL9 1.65V Non-ECC
    Hitachi Deskstar 1TB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 32MB Cache - OEM

This doesn't happen with all games, but games like NFS: Undercover, Grid, State of Decay, it happens after 5 minutes (ish).

Edit: The GPU idles at around 42 degrees Celsius, and I've tabbed out and seen the temps around 65.

This website I have found helpful in the past http://www.playtool.com/pages/troubleshooting/intro.html I would also try going into the utility for amd and maybe under clock your card a bit maybe by increments of 30 at a time until you remove about 10 to 15% but other than that try looking for an update for your motherboard chipset and bio's. If not you might want to consider sending the card in for rma or finding a replacement. if you can I would wait until the new series comes out. It is said within a few weeks to a month. Do you hear anything like a whine from the video card or power supply?

Well for one you have two different ram modules which can cause problems with your overall system. Your system seems like it is having issue's with the video card though. Do you have everything at stock or do you have things like the clocks set higher or voltage? I've seen things like this happen due to bad overclocks, or a non updated motherboard bio's which asus updates a lot

I have new RAM coming tomorrow, so that'll be that bit solved :) As for the GPU I have not played around with the clocks or anything, haven't needed too as of yet.

Download msi afterburner and set it up so you can monitor the temps in-game, Also check your system for dust. I would recommend just giving your whole system a good cleaning which could solve your problems which may be temp related

Happens in multiple games, chap, off the top of my head:
Grid
Sims3
Need for Speed Undercover
Civ 5

Other games like Skyrim, race07 and new vegas run fine at ultra.

Edit: I've had the 6970 since early december 2011, mate.
I put 2 120mm fans in, but apart from that the 6970 was the latest upgrade.
