BIOS switching settings when turned off?

OK long time lurker but first time poster, hope this is in the right place.

My computer was working fine, then I went away travelling for 4 months and had some issues when I returned. Usually my computer is in my conservatory but while I was away I unplugged everything and put it in my room in case there was any really hot days (I'm the only person that really uses the conservatory).

So when I got back I set everything back up and turned it on. First thing I noticed was that it asked me to press f1 to resume (to OS startup) which it has never done before and I have read that that is when there's some form of error? After pressing f1 it then went to the screen about no system found insert a disc then press any key. So I went into the BIOS and realised it was booting from the wrong hard drive. Changed that over went to boot and it got to starting windows then BSOD.

Next I installed windows on the hard drive that didn't have windows on and it actually let me got on to Windows. At this point I thought one of the hard drives was maybe corrupted, so I moved everything important off and formatted all the drives and reinstalled windows.

Still asked me to press f1 to resume but booted normally. Turned it off for a couple of hours and went back on later...same problem. Went to BIOS, changed the boot disk priority, worked fine. Installed all the updates for windows etc. so restarted and turned off multiple times and it worked fine. Then again turned it off for a longer period and the BIOS reverted again.

I think it might have something to do with me shutting windows down and then turning the plug off at the wall? Would that let the motherboard default? But the problem never happened before I went away and I did the same as I have a couple of plugs in the same adaptor and there's loads of lights.

So basically, is it to do with me turning the plug off? Or does the f1 to resume indicate something hasn't installed correctly? It's an Asus P6T motherboard if that helps.

Sorry for the huge amount of text but hopefully that is more insightful, if there is any more information needed please ask and I'll provide.

Thank you very much to anyone who has an idea!

Solution
Try replacing the cmos battery on the mobo. It all sounds like it is empty. The battery powers the cmos, when you unplug the psu or switch it off entirely. When it's empty, the bios will go back to the defaults.
