Have had a problem with my computer for a while, was looking for fixes, but before I got there the drive failed (according to DPS - code 4 - suggest replacement. I have a second HDD in there that I pulled from an older computer I had (1 TB with an unhappy win xp on it.) It will only boot into safe mode ( and technically not at all right this minute), but it passes DPS with flying colors. I am hoping that I can (BEST CASE) - partition it without losing the info- then install win 7 and use the win 7 to boot the puter with the win xp partition as storage. Or I could just do a clean install of 7 on it - I THINK I have everything I REALLY don't want to lose off of it. I have a copy of 7 enterprise ( This computer's os - bought computer off ebay) on a flash drive from this link. ftp://128.213.10.60/ISO/Microsoft/Op...d_u_677651.iso
So what I need to know is- will this flash work on a drive partition with no OS, & is it the full version & what I need to install 7 completely. If I do get 7 on the second partition will I be able to make it the boot drive. If I have to make it the sole drive ( get rid of the xp partition) will I be able to get it to be the boot drive.
There is probably more, but I'm sure that is plenty for now. Thanks for any suggestions etc. Lisa

Download a linux distro (mint or ubuntu) and get YUMI usb installer from pendrivelinux.com. Run the linux from the usb on the broken pc (boot from usb) and see if you can pick off your data using the files feature in linux.
