GTX 660 bad framerate?

I recently went from a Radeon HD 6850 to a GTX 660 and I'm a bit frustrated. The framerates seems to be almost the same, maybe a small improvement. I also upgraded from an Athelon II X4 631 to a FX-6300. What's the deal? Why am I barely getting 30 FPS (most of the time under that) in Borderlands 2 on max settings? FF14 is the same, max 30 FPS and often less than that in crowded areas on just regular default settings. Bioshock Infinite is the same way. Am I overestimating my build or is something horribly wrong?

FX-6300 3.5 Ghz
GTX 660 980MHz
Corsair 4 GB DDR3 1333MHz
ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0
Western Digital 1 TB SATA III 7200 RPM

I dont remember PSU and I dont know where box is, but I know its around 500-600W. I have an extra one OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W that I can use.

Solution
uninstall the drivers.......... graphics drivers for both amd and nvidia.. reboot. reinstall amd drivers.

i was going to mention the processing power in my first post but thought otherwise.......... i have a 660 that's finicky about what processor it is mated to for particular games. ................... try the driver thing.

Yeah, possibly. I suppose I just assumed that the framerate would be higher.

Just tested Bioshock, on the preset "Very Low Settings" and I'm getting 30 FPS in a non-combat closed area. I don't get it. I've read online that I should be hitting more than that. I specifically upgraded my CPU and motherboard after I bought my GPU because I thought that was the issue.

First thing I did when I installed all the new parts was get the GPU driver from Nvidia's website, so I can't imagine that being the issue.

If by SPU you mean PSU, maybe... how would i go about checking to make sure the PSU isn't bad? Anyone know? I haven't had any issues with the PSU to my knowledge... Though actually, now that I think about it, after I installed the graphics card I noticed a couple times the computer didn't boot. I force restarted and it booted up fine. That could be an indication that the power supply is getting old...

I ran HWmonitor (http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html) a few times, didn't seem like there was much of a temperature change when running the games but I should probably try that again. Right now the GPU is idling at 67 C and the CPU is 44 C.

What software should I use to monitor the load? That would probably be a good indication of whether or not something is wrong.

They are at factory settings. 3.5 Ghz processor and 980MHz for the graphics card.

I personally use HWiNFO64 and MSI Afterburner together.
I can try to find a guide on how to do it, but basically you make HWiNFO64 use MSI Afterburner's RivaTuner OSD.

Wow ok, afterburner is saying my GPU is running at around 97% and I ain't doing shit, just browsing the internet. Is my graphics card f'd up or what, pretty sure it shouldn't be doing that.

Yeah, I figure. What the hell is wrong with it? Should I go back to the store and tell them its a faulty GPU?

Honestly, I don't think it has to do with temps. Overall, your build is a medium build. I would expect around 30fps on max settings on newer games. The CPU and RAM are a bit dated compared to your 660, which is outdated just not by much. Hate to break it to ya, but you should probably be running closer to medium graphics for close to 60fps :/

Like I said though, Im running Bioshock infinite on the very lowest settings and its only hitting 30FPS. It sometimes hits as high as 40, but thats only if Im in a really small area without anything going on. In combat its around 25-30FPS.

And afterburner is telling me its working at full load, 99%, when Im just browsing the internet. No games or heavy 3D apps running at all.

I'm not expecting a miracle PC from these components, but it seems like theres no improvement from my previous components. It seems like it might be a faulty GPU but I want some sort of confirmation before going to the store to explain it.

Edit: Just tried Boarderlands 2 on lowest settings possible just for shits and giggles. Like 20-25 FPS. Basically no increase in FPS at all from highest to lowest settings.

Yup, that was it. Reinstalled all the drivers, now it works like a charm. Exactly how I expected. Thanks man.

I have also horrible performance with a GTX 660, AMD Phenom ii X6 1090T and I tried EVERYTHING... What you suggest is uninstalling both chipset(?) and nvidia drivers, reboot and reinstall chipset (not sure) then nvidia drivers?
