windows 8 doesnt detect hard drive!

I just got windows 8 for my new computer and I got it installed and it doesn't detect my western digital 1tb blue hard drive. I opened disk management and its not there, I go into bios and it is there. why might this be?

if you just installed windows on your pc you might be missing the motherboard chipset drivers. if it an intel chipset download the intel chipset drivers. if it an amd one download the amd chipset. for the drive itself check that it not plugged into a third party sata port.
