This is my first pc I built and I really like it but all my friends told me that AMD sucks and I shouldn't have bought a 6300 because amd can't game and intels are way better at everything. We all had a lan party last night and my computer put up roughly the same fps as all of their intel systems and they were all mad and saying i must have some special chip and I shouldn't be able to keep up with them
Is there like a special 6300 or is the difference not as much as some people make it out to be ?
Sorry this may sound like a dumb question but I just wanted to ask.Thanks.

No, there's no magical FX-6300. It's just that Intel fanboys often over-exaggerate just how much Intel chips out-perform AMD chips. Truth be told, unless the processor is being utilized at or near 100%, you're probably not even going to notice a difference. Of course, there are a lot of other factors such as memory speed, graphics card, and the actual game being played.

If they start playing SC (or some heavy single threaded game) you might see your frames way below them. Otherwise, Wolfshadw stated it perfectly. You can get even more performance out of your system by overclocking.

well, if all their cpus were overclocked to 4.2 and you were playing a very cpu intensive game, ya their intels would win. you overclocked yours so you kind of made up the difference there. but ya, Wolf is right, no magic, just intel fanboyism going full retard mode. there are a few on these boards as well. most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between an amd cpu and an intel cpu in a blind test (before that is misconstrued, not blindfolded, just where you don't know which one is which).

Intel cpus are more powerful in single threaded tasks, that is their major advantage. But if your friends can't admit to AMD's strengths (multi tasking and multi threading, and great overclocking) then you can safely ignore ALL computer info that comes out of their mouths since biased people give bad info.

In short, nothing wrong with the cpu you chose, especially if saving the extra money got you a better graphics card. And that is probably what had them so riled up, you paid the same for your mobo and cpu that they did for their cpus alone (or less) and now they are all butt hurt about it. If you like trolling them, be sure to rub that point in :)

What can I say, your friends are dumb...lol Just kidding. They're just uninformed. The FX-6300 was aimed directly at the gaming market by AMD. That chip is made to game. They're probably just jealous because they realise that they paid too much. Ignore what they said, I have a feeling that after seeing the FX-6300's performance over and over again in these LAN parties, their next purchases will be red and white boxes, not blue and white ones. You've probably improved their lives to a degree...lol
