I'm currently in a dilemma trying to choose the right RAM.

My build is as follows
CPU: 4770K
MoBo: Z87x- UD4H

I'm trying to choose between these 2 RAMs:
1. clock speed 1866 CL9 1.5v
http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-1866c9d-16gxm

2. clock speed 2133 CL9 1.6v
http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-2133c9d-16gxh

There's also the option of 2400 but those are CL10 and 1.65v I've been told to stay away from higher voltages as they won't overclock good and to try to stick with CL9 as they're more compatible with overclocking..

Now I've no idea what that means in terms of actual performance so if you could shed some light that would be great :D

As I previously said I will be overclocking but nothing major... I don't need to but I want to do it since I have the option haha.

Solution

High DRAM Voltage just means it is extreme performance RAM. 1.65V is the safe max for DDR3, so the DDR3-2400 CL10 kit is the best of the 3. Though the second DDR3-2133 CL9 is very good as well. Both will be very good for that motherboard and CPU used.

One thing voltage does make a difference is heat, so if you want a slightly lower heat system over extreme performance, than 1.60V RAM is better.

CL9 does not mean it is more compatible for overclocking. The lower latency number the better, so DDR3-2133 CL9 is better than DDR3-2133 CL10 and DDR3-2133 CL11.

If you plan to do some overclocking, the DDR3-2133 or DDR3-2400 kit would be best.

Thank you
