I have a question that might seem a bit obvious to some, but I've heard that updating BIOS incorrectly could bust your computer so I just want be sure I'm doing it right. For the ASUS Sabertooth Z77, would I just go on ASUS's support page and download the file under "BIOS" (for the Z77, of course) and run the file? Are there any owners of the same board that could help me through the process? Thanks in advance! :)

Solution
i have that motherboard the right way is download the newest bios file. then download under bios tool the renamer tool. it rename the bios file to z77st.cap. then put the file on a fat formated 32 usb stick. then put the stick into the lowest usb port with the white box around it (the usb flashback port). turn your rig off then press the usb flashback button. the bios will auto update it self...take about 3 min then the port led light will go off. the other way is go into bios advance mode to the bios updater. leave the bios file in your download folder.
in the bios updater the updater give your drives a f0 f1 f2 f3 letters. find your drive with windows install. go to users then download the bios updater will then find the flash file...
yeah... asus allows flashing it in windows... if it comes with an installer (.exe) file then it will run in windows. if it comes in any other non-actionable format, save it somewhere you can find it (like c:\bios) and load into your bios, one of the last tabs to the right (2nd last tab i think) will have an option to update the bios, specify that folder as the location of the file and let it do its thing.

Which method would you recommend?

I just realized that my mouse has been plugged into that USB port. Is that fine? Or should it strictly be used for BIOS updating?

Hi i know this might sound like a very newbie amateur question...But i need some clarity on the procedure.. cause i certainly do not want to end up bricking my motherboard. What do you mean by "download under bios tool the renamer tool" is this a software u need to download separately? or is it some file/folder already in your C: drive? Actually my pc is not going past the bios screen and i want to update my bios through bios flashback port, i think that might help.. can i just download the file from the asus site and just rename the file as you mentioned z77st.cap wiothout going through this renamer tool?

the bios renamer is a small tool to rename the bios file for people that do not want to look up the file ranaming for there mb. for your bios file just rename it as you typed it in the post above. the bios usb tool if the file is named wrong wont run the port will blink a few times then turn off. if named right the port will blink for a few min and then turn off.
