I just started school for IT and i am building my first computer. I am not into games on the PC but i was thinking about getting into it. but i want a computer that is super fast and if i decide to get into gaming something that can handle that also. I chose the AMD 8350 for my processor and had a couple of questions about it. I also bought the nzxt phantom 820 full tower. So heres the list of questions.

1. Is the nzxt phantom 820 a good case to use to build?

2. What is the #1 or #2 builds you would use for this processor. I wanted one build with a price range no higher than $2,500 and the second around the same price.

I wanted 2 so i can compare the 2 builds. Im very new to all this stuff so im sorry if i missed anything or if i asked a dumb question. I tried researching but it just goes down all the wrong paths. If someone can respond asap i would appreciate it, i wanted to start buying the parts today.

you are way better off with an intel build at a larger budget range and even iwth such a large budget, there is no reason to spend it all

as for the case, its a huge waste of money considering you are never going to full up half the space and the fact that you can get the same quality for 1/3 the of the price makes it a total rip off. as for the cool looks, what looks cool now will not look cool in 3-4 years. id even return it and replace it with a fractal arc midi r2 or the phantom 410 which are both more suitable cases

generally this is what id get

With a $2000-2500 budget there is no reason NOT to get a 4770k. You could probably get a 4930k if you really needed it.

I figured that was the price range to build the best with that. I just want to build the best one i can build i herd that that was the way to go because of the 8 cores. If you have another build i will take that also. The only thing i bought so far is the nzxt phantom 820 case. I swear i have been trying for about a week and i cant seem to find a good build i keep hearing so many different things so i figured i would ask on her and get a up to date answear.

For a $2500 budget you can get an i7-3930k or i7-4930k which for the money gives you the best gaming option and rendering or editing option.

-the only reason you would want a 4930k or a x79 platform based rig is if you are making money off of this rig and 10 seconds during a heavy render will make a huge difference in your productivity. if this is for programming, the 4 core 4770k and the 6 core 4930k will not make a huge difference
-the only reason to get more than 16gb of ram is for if you are going to run vms or run a ramdisk.
-a mainstream SSDs will be more than sufficient. higher end SSDs will have no practical benefit in real life usage scenarios
- the 770 is sufficient for gaming and work. 4gb editions are useless when the GPU itself isnt powerful enough to drive it and GPUs that are more powerful wont do too much

Get an SSD. Could also get a better CPU depending on use.
