Hi, lately I have been wondering if the Kingston Hyper X Genesis RAM will work with the Intel i5 3470 CPU, I have heard rumours that the the voltages are not right or something, is any of this true?

Solution
It will probably work, but it will void Intels warranty because you will have to adjust the memory voltage in bios to 1.65v. Without the added voltage the memory maybe unstable at it stock frequency and timings. If you don't want to void the warranty you need ram thats 1.5v. Also of its an OEM board with a locked bios the ram may not work properly as you won't be able to adjust the voltages, freq and timing.

The 3470 is pretty basically a stock CPU, if the Hyper X you are looking at are 1.65 sticks, I'd stay away from them, the 3570 at stock can generally run 1600 and some 1866 at stock, there should be no need for sticks to require 1.65 on 1600 sticks (in fact only about 13% of the 1600 sets out there are 1.6 and higher. Intel recommends 1.5 sticks for CPUs at stock....all you really get from 1.65 is more heat from the voltage, most of the sets are entry level 1600/9....might look at the Ripjaws X sets or GSkill Snipers at 1600/9

The IB memory controller is rated at 1.5 volts. I don't know how long I'd trust it running at 1.65v. If you can set the RAM voltage down to 1.5V in BIOS and the RAM is still stable, you should be OK. But if the RAM is still returnable, I would do that.
