I am building a new system and will have a 1tb wd hdd for storage and will probably get a 120gb SSD for boot/os etc.
Do i need to raid these since it is multiple drives or will they work fine by themselves?
Any help is good :)

no. you want them as two different drives.

the ssd should be your primary drive (that you install the os on) and the hdd should be for data. i would not hook up the hdd until you have windows installed on the ssd so you install it on the right one but up to you

So leave the hdd out until I have put together and installed the system?

well its not required but if its your first build it makes it simpler for you.

assemble everything... but just dont plug the power cable in to the hdd. install windows on the ssd, drivers, etc. shutdown, turn the psu off. plug the power cable into hdd, turn psu on, start up pc and format the drive in windows.

in this way you only have one drive option to install windows on (though you can just select it from the list... and format both drives at the same time if you wanted if you installed both drives at the same time)... basically whatever you are comfortable doing (but both ways are easy)

...just dont try to raid them
