so ive been wanting to get my old photos off an old laptop for a while now. today i got hold of a 2.5inch ide to sata adapter but it is telling me i cant use hdd untill i reformat which will delete everything. i downloaded something called test disc but i dont know how to use it
how do i extract old photos from old hdd??

if the old laptop still kicking you can use a usb stick to copy the data. if there a lot of data you can turn on file sharing on both pc and move the data over a network cable or usb crossover cable. the adaptor you got does it plug into the usb ports or the mb?? if it plugs into the mb see if a friend has the usb to hard drive kit you can use or buy one then return it.
it plugs in with usb. ive taken it to a shop today and they said it has damaged or muddled up sectors (i forgot exactly what he said) and showed me a program i could use to recover data. the problem is the program is a trail and it wont let me do anything. i may take it back to them and see how much they would charge

i actually found this program from a friend irl b4 i checked your comment. works great i used it on ultimate boot cd and got every piece of information off the hdd. 10,000 jpg files to sort through now D; and most of it is my brothers porn saved from over 5 years ago lol
