PC Freeze Fest knocks my CPU's cores down from 6 to 4

The reason I am posting this here is because the errors seem to be my Processor. Although I could be wrong… More then likely wrong.. lol

Anyway, a month ago I had this problem kick in with my current PC. My pc started to freeze. The Graph driver would fail and then come back. Afterwards my PC crashed and when It came back on it said it had to shut down 2 cores on my processor. It was pushing 6 cores but kicked it down to 4.

After that I started getting BSOD. So, I did all the things they told me to do for a 124 BSOD and it didn't work. So I Did a fresh install of Windows (While I was at it, I got an SSD because my Hard Drive was like 5 years old.) Re-did everything. A day after, My PC blue screens and I am kicked down from 6 to 4 cores again and started getting the Blue screens again. So, I re did all my drivers and stuff. I do not get the Blue screens but I DO get Freezes where My whole PC locks up.

That’s where my question is. I cannot figure out what piece of hardware is doing this? I ran Memtest86 8 times without error as well, so I do not think its Memory. I think it’s the processor, simply because of how the issues started.

I've never heard of a cpu being in danger at 38 degrees Celsius he was giving temps in Fahrenheit.

No your temps were fine Chilly. try resetting the cmos for your motherboard, it might be a setting got fubared in there.

Hmmm The I am using a stock heat sink... When I ran the temperatures my CPU around 100 F. I was running a video but nothing heavy at all. My GPU was 98 F.

Are those bad temperatures?

both of those temps are way to high. your cpu should be around 65 to 70 under load and slightly higher for gpu but not at 100.

case fans, clean out the gpu fan, etc. Ideally you want fans at the front of your case pulling in air, and fans at the back blowing out to keep airflow going through the case.

Im not sure if this is correct, AMD chips run hotter than Intel. I have a FX 8120 Liquid cooled(kuhler 920) and under load i get a max of 50C(122F) if im gaming for long times, and mine works perfect. Usally around 46-48c but a max of 50c. Idle at 34(93F).

the standard that computer enthusiasts use is celsius so maybe switching your temp monitors to that might help avoid that kind of confusion. but yeah its no big deal :)

Let me know how it goes.

I reset Bios and it seemed to work. Although I let it run over night and when i woke I could just hear the fan blowing louder then normal I moved my mouse and it came on but, the curser was missing. It had worked all nite without a hitch too.

Thanks for the help! I am close i can feel it lol
