Hi All

Where is the best place to on the internet to teach yourself about being a server administrator without having to do a paid course or have a server?

There is a number of places online where you can learn Linux commands what not. You should get a Linux unmanaged small server from a web host and have a clean install on it. From there learn how to install LAMP and Learn how to maintain the server. Build yourself a small web site that will stay with your your whole life so you can get something back from it and manage it. A small VPS cost no more than five bucks.


Also anything you need google is your friend you can google anything and find the answer,

Google volunteer centers, learn on their servers, from their admins.

Several places need computer volunteers to operate. And hey, the volunteer work looks good on a resume too. Red cross deployment uses systems, so do places like boys and girls clubs, YMCA, public schools, these all need volunteers to operate may have spots you can use to further your education too. I am sure there are others out there, look into it.

I am in Cape Town, South Africa. I don't think we have google volunteer centers here.

I am looking for a good free resource on the internet where I can learn the basics about server administrating.

Hi Ram1009

I am I.T hobbyist. I am not looking to work in I.T as a career. I am already well established in a total different career. I just like doing computers as a hobby and this why I don't want to spend large sums of money to go get Formal qualifications in I.T. Computer courses in South Africa are not cheap.

Do you have any links for me please where I can create a cloud Linux server for free and use Linux commands to learn about servers?
