Black screen with flickering white lines

I am having a problem and I am not sure if the cause is my graphics card or something else. It has happened 3 times now. I will just be minding my own business, not playing a game just working on homework, and my primary monitor will just go black and have flickering white lines all over it. My second display is fine and a restart fixes the problem. I originally thought it might have been a problem with my video card so i was able to get the device manager over to the second screen and tried disabling my video driver. All that ended up doing was leaving the screen frozen as black and white lines down the entire screen. Has anyone had this problem before? My system specs are as follows

Windows 7 professional 64-bit sp1
AMD Athlon II X4 645
ASUSTeK Computer INC. M3N78 PRO
Sapphire Radeon HD 7850 1gb graphics card
500gb Hitachi HDD
8gb ddr2 ram dual channel

On a side note, I have also noticed these very small red flickering lines that appear all over my screen but are only really noticeable if i have a black background up and I've looked around and the only thing I could find was a possible driver issue and i have updated them but the problem persists. Could both of these problems be connected?

  1. What Drivers are you using for your card, and have you overclocked it?
I get those red lines too at times.
  2. I know this is a VERY old thread but if anyone else comes by this post, the solution for it was re-seating the graphics card in the PCI-E x16 slot.
