I'm new to this so don't come at me

I bought the Alienware tactx gaming headphone's on the site it said you will hear the foot step's of your enemie's , them sneaking behind you or if they are shooting at u you will know their location but I could not hear no such sound's or feel no difference

A friend of mine told me it's cause you don't got a dedicated sound card so now the question is was he right ?

Btw my headphone's are 7.1 so If I get a card that's 5.1 will it let me hear those sound's?

what's the difference between a built in sound card and a dedicated one?

Not sure about those headphones. I use the Corsair Vengeance 1500s and they are pretty awesome. As for if they are 7.1 or not, I don't think so. I haven't seen many 7.1 headphones on 3.5mm jacks so I don't think those are

The speakers you are getting are pretty nice so no issues there.

Onboard sound normally has a lower SnR while discrete has a higher SnR. From my experience with onboard vs soundcard, my RealTek onboard was no match for my X-Fi or my current SoundBlaster Z. It just didn't sound as clean and clear on the onboard.

you're right they weren't 7.1 its regular Stereo 2.0 which simulates some affects of 7.1 such as footsteps but does not allow true 7.1/5.1 but no soundcard will make the TactX headset into a true surround model. (Some soundcards offer virtual surround, a technique which mimics directional audio) Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi it does a fake surround sound conversion into any analog headphones . so the only soultion was to get a creative xfi 7.1 or download the razer virtual surround sound software
