Looking for a good external drive to play games from my late 2012 dual boot iMac.

I'm a designer by profession and therefore a mac owner. I'm also a minimalist and don't want more than one desktop computer in my house, so I've set up a boot camp windows partition on my drive. Now I need more space.

I got a Seagate Backup+ a couple of months ago.... a 4TB drive (I'm somewhat of a .... "collector"). I thought it might be nice to use the space, so I tried it. It turned out to be a nightmare. The drive had a tendency to randomly disconnect and reconnect every so often, frequently dropping me out of games and ruining progress. That was a dealbreaker for me.

I got a lot of advice that it was due to the instability of drives over 2TB in size. I was thinking of getting more advice this time around and finding a suitable, stable drive that I could game from when I boot over to Windows. I thought I'd check here for advice. Any suggestions on stable, good drives that could serve my purposes for the time being?

side note: I had no problems with the load times from the Seagate drive. They didn't bug me at all and performance was otherwise great. It was just the drive random disconnecting and therefore game crashing that bugged me.

The drive was external. The iMac drive is partitioned with about 100gb for boot camping to Windows. The rest I use for work on the Mac side.

To make diagnosing a little easier...the stuff you collected...was it legal? (games, movies, etc.)

As far as storage goes, the higher capacity, the newer it is, the more problems it may have, the more problems you will have...etc.

I have 1TB, 2TB, and 3TB drives--I've never had one fail yet, but they are mostly for archiving data files, RIPs, etc.

They're all Steam games, so totally legit. I load up all my steam games because I switch between them all frantically. I play like 10 at a time. I like to store them all on the drive.
