i bought my new computer parts and build a sweet gaming pc. I used cpu cooler that came with the cpu packaging. few month of gaming i didn't get any stuttering, after 5 moths i realize i get stuttering in every games. Did i break my cpu?
your friend was wrong however, as cpus get older, or they're damaged by heat, many cases instead of "dying" what happens is they need more vcore.
what might be happening is your cpu is thermal throttling (downclocking because it's too hot) which is causing your games to stutter. Or you could actually be burning the cpu out. i've never seen it before myself, but i've seen the numbers and at high temps and voltages you can break down a modern cpu in less then a year.
you shorten the life of your cpu when you let it stay too hot. if your (intel?) cpu was drawing a constant 90C during gaming sessions you might very well have started to damage your cpu.
I think I'm gonna have to agree with Ingtar, it seems like you damaged the CPU, but there are other factors, what kind of PSU do you use to power your system with? Is it an Intel or AMD based CPU?
yea its a i7 920 i just keep boostin it cause gonna upgrade run bout 81c max no higher in gaming for a few hours all the time with good cooling but 4.2clock and higher volt as it gets older
It keeps the cpu cool enough to operate at stock settings, or intel wouldnt be giving it out with their products. But compared to a $30 aftermarket cooler like the hyper 212 evo, yes it is weaker and louder as well, from what I hear. I also havent heard great things about the stock thermal compound intel puts on their coolers. That being said, using an aftermarket cooler breaks the warranty apparently, so that is always something to consider.
i am just wondering i bought my cpu around august 14 and up till now do you think i damaged my cpu? my friend told me that if i damage my cpu it would shut down by itself
That seems insanely hott for a CPU. my 3570k is at 4.4ghz and even during stress tests doesnt even go above 38'C. I have the Hyper 212 evo. Usually if you fry a CPU though it ceases to work at all. Put it back to its default settings in bios and check then.
