Hey Guys/Ladies

Just blew my HD away today and I had too much crap on it and re-installed windows 7 from an ISO my friend gave me. I had a genuine copy but cannot find the CD if Dell even gave me one when I got the computer. Dell says that I have to essentially buy a CD from them with an ISO on it for about $40 because I can't just use any Windows 7 Home Premium ISO that someone gives me even though I have a legit genuine Windows 7 Home Premium key. Does anyone know a way around this or if I am screwed with paying Dell. Below is my Microsoft genuine Adv. Diagnostic Tool output:

^yes, Dell is ripping you off, as you suspected. ANY home premium disk will be sufficient. just make sure its a genuine disk so you don't install any malware

Right. Do not download a torrent version. You will be sorry.

the ones on w7 forum are fine though. i used that instead of my win7 professional disk when i last formated pc (mine doesnt have the sp on it)

you will need your official win7 key though.

Yes. That is why I linked them above.

There is no 'deactivation'.
Install. If it activates, fine. If not, then go through the phone robot. At some point, it may ask you "How many PC's is this installed on?"

And.. the correct answer is none. (Not 1which you might think)
You will not get the dell bloatware or have your drive set up with a dell recovery partition.
Your key should be under the battery on the laptop.
Or, use "magical jelly bean keyfinder" which will display your key.

I might suggest that this is an opportune time to switch to a ssd. It will absolutely transform your laptop performance.

Geofelt, This is a desktop. I used Belarc to find the windows key.
