my laptop will not connect to the internet bc i am missing the correct drivers, it runs win xp, i don't have the install disk all i have is a thumb drive, can i somehow download the drivers to the usb on my pc(running win 8), and transfer them to the laptop with xp?

sure, go to the laptop support site and download the drivers for that specific model, put them on the drive and install them on the laptop, i do this all the time

Yes, that is one of the recommended things to do. Download all the relevant drivers, put them on a CD or USB, then do the install thing on whatever PC you're working on.

okay i have a msi wind netbook i cannot find anywhere to actually download the drivers. it just has software to detect and update them, but as i said i have no internet connection on the netbook, so how do i get the drivers directly?

There should be an actual model number on the netbook somewhere (on a sticker usually) google that followed by "drivers" and you should be able to find them.
