Hi.
I have 2x4gb of 1600mhz in 2 slots and was wondering if i were to put 2x4gb of 1866mhz in the other 2 slots if it would cause some sort of compatibility issue. I'm pretty sure it wont but wanted to make sure before purchasing. The thing is that my 1600mhz ram is oc'd to 1866, don't know if it matters.
Oh and in case you're wondering, the 1866mhz ram is on sale and is cheaper than the 1600 model, so it makes no sense to purchase the model clocked at a lower speed.

Solution
I know! You realize as well that if you go to 4 sticks you most likely will have to set command rate to 2T and many boards limit speed as well. I always recommend just upgrading t 2 x 8GB instead and sell of the 2 x 4GB kit. That will ensure that there are no compatibility issue's.

I'm pretty sure they're the same voltage, since they're the same brand, corsair vengance pro. Geez ram prices have gone up so much.

Not a good idea to mix DRAM sets, even of the same exact model, can be problematic, even more so with different brands, different freqs, different CAS.. Best to buy a single set of what you want, that way they are tested to work together, XMP (which is programmed by the set, for the number of sticks) will work, i.e. with two sticks the advanced timings will differ from a 4 stick set, i.e. tRFC for 2 sticks may be 208 and with 4 it may be 314)....also with different freqs in particular it will prob take additional DRAM voltage and MC (memory controller voltage)

okay, thanks. This is for rendering so i was actually looking for a very "well" priced 32gb kit, do you know one?

Thank's a lot. I will just sell my 8gb kit and buy a 16 or 32 kit.
