Hi, I recently just purchased a laptop with an Nvidia GeForce 750m graphics card. I also just purchased bioshock infinite. According to benchmarks that I've seen (namely this one: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-750M.90245.0.html), I should be able to run the game on ultra settings at 1080 x 1920 (my comp's resolution) with great results.

Unfortunately, running on medium-low settings is barely playable, especially when there's a lot of movement/graphics in the game.

My computer is running windows 8, has a touch screen, has 8gb of ram, 1tb hard drive, GeForce 750m, Intel Core i7-4700HQ processor.

I've downloaded the latest drivers and plugged in my comp with my battery settings on high performance, with no results. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Check your device manager
Start -> Computer (right click) -> Manage -> Device Manager

check under the display adapters node, it should list the Intel (R) HD graphics as well as another
there may be a node which is...

Nvidia mobile cards are not always active to save power, so the computer switches to intel's GPU. Under the Nvidia Control Panel select manage 3D settings, Program Settings, (1) Select Bioshock (2) Use Nvidia Processor.

This will force the 750m to process the game.
Some laptops, such as mine, also have a switch on the front to force the nvidia card off. Make sure that switch, if any, is on.

Thanks for the quick response! However, the plot thickened. I can't even find the Nvidia control panel on my computer. The only one I can access is for intel HD graphics, both by clicking on the desktop blank space and by searching my entire computer. I tried going through that control panel to see if I could switch to 750m graphics, no luck. What does this mean? Does this mean I only have Intel HD graphics??? If so, it's a manufacturer error, as I'm looking at the sticker on my laptop right now saying geforce 750m.

They don't claim ultra settings, only high.

I would suggest disabling your touchscreen and switching your "plugged in" settings to high performance. Your system will fall back to the "battery" settings when you unplug it from the power socket. I would also suggest running the game at a lower graphics resolution like 1360x768.

It's also possible your laptop isn't actually switching over to the 750M when you run the game, when you're on the desktop it's just running the intel HD. To force the switch right click on desktop -> NVidia control panel -> Manage 3D settings -> select your "Preferred graphics processor:", it defaults to Auto-select, you're looking for High-performance NVIDIA processor.

Yeah, I've actually already changed the plugged in power settings to high performance. Also, as you'll see from my post above, I'm not able to access an NVIDIA control panel like that. The only option that comes up is for Intel hd Graphics. I've run the game at that resolution and it gets a little better (though still not preferred) however the screen is a lot smaller. Is there a way to zoom in on that graphics resolution so I can at least play full screen at the lower resolution?

there may be a node which is yellow labelled other/unknown (I can't remember which or if it's something else), check under this as well. Either way, you're just checking to see if your system sees a card the drivers may be missing for.

Apologies, you said Win 8, this might not work, I gave for Win 7.

Ok thanks I was able to find the graphics card that way. It says it was stopped by windows because of problems (code 43). That's clearly my problem. Any idea how to proceed?
