Hello all

I have buyed a new procesor Intel core duo E6700 (2,66ghz) 2 cores. After i installed new processor on motherboard i have checked if motherboard supports processor and it does, and then i updated bios to newest version. Now when i installed a processor into motherboard, puted a cooling on, and when it was ready for 1st startup it freezes at the Win7 logo
But when i put my old processor back in it works everything well.

I have been trying like removing 1 module of ram, than put in other module ram, and remove 2nd ram. And it was still no effect. I went into bios to check if it does recognize processor and it does.
I have stayed out of solutions, what could i do, to make processor working.

My specifications:
New processor Intel core duo E6700(2,66ghz) 2 cores
Old processor Intel Pentium E2140 @ 1.60GHz 2 cores
RAM: 1 slot: 1gb ddr2, 2nd slot: 2gb ddr2
Hard drive: 233 gb westernal digital.
Video graphic card, not intergrated, is: NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT

I have spent like 6 hours for fixing computer, and i havent done anything important than updating bios. I really need yours help.
Thank you in future for all your posts / comments which will try to fix my problem.

Have a nice day, Klemen

Looks to be hardware, Only thing to try now is a raw system test, where you unplug every single component on the system (Speakers, USB devices) unplug literally everything. If you have an external graphics card installed you need to take that out of the PCIe slot as well and use the onboard temporarily. So you're left with nothing but the power supply, motherboard, processor, hard drive, and One stick of ram. If initial boot fails put the one stick of ram into another slot and reseat it then try again.

This rules out all other components, Reset the CMOS on the motherboard as well. That's when you take out the battery on the motherboard for 5 minutes and all your BIOS settings reset to default. With the bios back to default and only the...

To switch mine over I had to reinstall the chipset drivers and also check the plates on the bottom to make sure no thermal paste is on any of them, if there is you can clean them quite easily. But yeah check manufacturers website for a specific patch

Thank you for yor reply, i have checked, and there is no thermal paste on plate, or on the chips.
How do you mean by reinstalling chipset drivers ?

Well the chipset drivers are essentially the main drivers for the motherboard and installing the updated drivers for it can often fix issues with performance and compatibility with certain processors or ram. For example your motherboard the "Asus P5VD2-VM" has a VIA P4M900 chipset. To get the latest drivers for that chipset this is the download page http://www.via.com.tw/en/resources/download-center/chipsets/

Hello, i have went on URL, you have posted me, but there is no download function for this, and VIA gallery, is broken, I was thinking then about drivers, and i have went under device manager and, now i see an exclamation mark
Picture: http://
And the chipset drivers proof:

An unknown device is generally a missing driver or malfunctioning piece of hardware that isn't properly registering with the system. I dont believe they're related. This download function still works http://www.via.com.tw/en/support/drivers.jsp this is the actual chipset driver http://www.viaarena.com/Driver/VIA_HyperionPro_V524A.zip

Also there's one thing I believe could help, since its freezing at the windows logo i can only assume windoes isnt liking the new processor. Instead of trying to boot into windows, put in your windows installation disc at startup and run a system restore. Back when I was putting new hardware in I had a similar issue and that fixed it.

Hello,
I have already tried to do this, but then it freezes me up where it says Windows is loading files, and i cant go even past that, so basicly, i cant move anywhere in new processor expect to BIOS where i can spend hours of time, and it won't freeze.
And if would that help, when i started computer with new processor, sometimes it type a bios post, Boot will fail - not sure, but something like that, and like when it freezes, i restart computer, and next time there isnt post anymore, anyway computer still freezes...

Hello,

I have done everything as you have said, even to plug the vga cable into primary, i've didnt and then it freezes up again, after that, i've tooked out battery for 5 mins, and puted it back, after that, computer have beeped, but there was black screen, after that i've puted it off power, waited a min, and then tried to start it again, there was no beep, but fans were spining, i have done that several times, and there was no beep, after that i have gived up and installed old processor in, and everything works like it have to be, as i have tried almost everything, i think this processor is broken, and i will return it back, and request back payment, or other processor
Thank you for taking your time Nitro192, as thanks i will pick up a solution on your last post, 1 more question
Could processor freeze beacuse of overheating ? when i went into bios my T. was 63 degrees, althought in processor specs, it says 60 degrees max, i haven't puted any thermalpaste on beacuse i thought it would be uselles of it.beacuse i have opened computer so many times ?.

From what I see it does look to be a faulty CPU. And im guessing there's no bent pins in the socket because if there was then neither processor would work properly.

Replacement should do fine and I think you've done enough as far as troubleshooting. Looks to be narrowed down to CPU.

As far as the overheating, The CPU only overheats when it's being put under stress for long periods of time. (Gaming, Torture tests) Overheating within the few seconds it takes to boot? Not possible. You can actually run a computer without any cooling for a short period of time without issue and although the max safe temp is around 60'C, A processor can run at temperatures as high as 95'C without problems. It may shorten the life but it's still capable.

The only processors that reach unsafe temps within seconds of having the system turned on are damaged CPU's so again even if it was the problem it still puts us back to the CPU as the issue but 63'C is not overly hott for a CPU anyway.

Hope all goes well with the replacement, if you are in the market for a new one there's some really great prices on entry level intels right now.

He tried to put a new installation of windows already, that was one of the first things we tried.

The Core 2 Duo E6700 Processor is windows 7 compatible, many people run the two together. We tried booting from the windows installation disk which bypasses the primary operating system and goes into the install wizard, Although the installation is for windows 7 it's not actually booting into windows 7 the operating system but an install wizard which any system can generally reach despite hardware compatibility.

The motherboard works with his old processor though, Old processor with same mobo boots in and everything works fine, its just when he puts the new CPU in. He was using the same mobo in win 7 when he posted this so it seems the mobo works okay in win7, just not with the new CPU.
