Ok I was looking at getting this asus monitor PB278Q
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236294

I'm not sure if I should get that or a 120hz monitor, I'll list my specs since I'm also not sure if I could fully make use of either

PC Specs:
Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz
850 watt power supply unit
GTX 760 card
not sure what the motherboard is all I know is its an ASUS that came out this June

I use a 2nd monitor for console gaming and extended desktop for more space but I keep my pc gaming to 1 screen the 2nd monitor I use is this ASUS
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236307

For either of the 2 new monitors would I need to sli a 2nd 760?
Any help would be grateful since I myself can't decide between the 2.
As far as games I play a lot of single players and also some fps for fun most of my fps is done on console with friends. The pc games can be anything from command and conquer, Splinter cell blacklist, GMOD, LFD2, Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas, Osu!, etc

Edit:
Forgot to mention this is the current main monitor I use
LG 27EA33V

you can do 3d on 60 hz, but you will only get 30 fps. 1440 is a much better option, unless you are an extremely fussy videophile who can actually notice those frames.

120 hz monitors are pointless these days unless you have a gpu that can run games at 120 fps. i would go for the hi-res screen. you should be able to easily run two monitors at the same time off that card(although there may be a slight performance loss)

Yeah, there's really no point to 120 Hz unless you've got a game which will run at >120 fps (anything between 60-120 will tear, making it not much better than 60 Hz).

120 Hz TVs were made to solve a specific problem with playing back movies. Most movies are shot at 24 fps. When you play them on a 60 Hz TV, you end up showing the individual frames for 2/60 sec, the next frame for 3/60 sec, the next for 2/60 sec, 3/60 sec, etc. On smooth action like panning shots, this causes the motion to appear to stutter. The "soap opera effect" was invented as one way of trying to smooth out this judder, by interpolating the video to create 60 fps.

If the TV instead refreshes at 120 Hz, then you can show a 24 fps movie simply by showing each frame for 5/120 sec. There is no judder, and the motion appears smooth at the original 24 fps. No soap opera effect.

All this is pointless unless you're into watching 24 fps movies on your monitor, or you have games which do >120 fps. The only other marginal benefit of a 120 Hz monitor is that they tend to have faster pixel response times than 60 Hz monitors. But it'll probably be so small only hardcore gamers would notice it.

Edit: Another thing to consider is that with a 1440p monitor, if the game's framerate gets too bad you can drop the resolution down to 1280x720. The framerate will be much better, and the game pixels will still line up with the monitor pixels so there will be no blurring. 1280x720 is a bit chunky, but still one of the "playable" resolutions developers build the game around. You can't really do this with a 1080p monitor as halving the resolution results in 960x540, which is unusable in most games.

Well Id like to keep the FPS I currently get and I think I get the numbers fraps gives me is anywhere from 55-70 fps for metro last light, 60 for skyrim, and around a constant 60 for battlefield 3. if i go up to a 1440p monitor should I sli anyway for future games

never used it and dont really plan on it since I'm only using one monitor but based on what the other 2 said it seems like the 1440p will be better then 120hz
