The C drive (system, boot, primary partition) where the windows 7 is installed is filling up it's space itself. I don't & didn't install all the other softwares there. Deleted TEMP files. But for some unknown reason the free disc space is automatically decreasing (already 12 GB decreased)! Soon it will cover the entire disc space same thing happened to my laptop which is also running on Win7. Why and how do I prevent this? I doubt there is any virus in my PC (desktop).

Thank you.

Check c:\windows\system32\softwaredistribution\downloads

This is where Windows Update puts all its files.

Safe to delete contents when you know all the updates have installed.

Couldn't find the softwaredestribution file in system32

but there's a softwaredestribution folder inside Windows folder -

I think that's it.
But there's only 147 mb of total files in download folder.
Do I delete these files?

Check your resource monitor. It should show what is accessing the hard drives. You may also want to set your page file to a fixed size instead of automaticically resize. You can also reduce the amount of disk space is used by system restore points. If you don't use hibernation, you can delete the hyberfil.sys file by disabling hibernation.

You can also use a utility called windirstat to easily locate large files.

Sorry, yep that's the one. Windows normally updates 2nd Tuesday of month, so check the file dates.

Also do as he says, check what % is reserved for system restore points, If you don't do a lot of installing, set it to something like 3%.

Set pagefile min/max to say 4GB (4096), if apps start complaining increase it.

Download ccleaner and see what it says is taking space up.

Okay, how do I set to 3% or so? From where? I tried to open system restore point but looks like it attempts to 'restore in previous state' than letting me adjust the reserved space. How do I adjust?
