So after spending about four hours trying to get an old wireless network adapter (Netgear WG121, circa 2004) to work on my just finished build I've come to the realization that there is simply no driver support allowing it to work on new 64 bit OSs.

If anything I won't be purchasing another Netgear product (or do they all drop off product support when convenient?). But before I run off and drop $50 I wanted to ask if there are any known workarounds that could get this device to work; open source universal drivers, Eastern European elbow grease, or running drivers from a newer product that at least allow functionality...

Thanks.

Every company cuts off support for older products at some point. And it's quite possible that the actual circuitry inside does not support 64bit operation, rather than Netgear just being cheap and not creating the drivers. Remember...this is 9 years old. Came out before widespread use of a 64bit OS.

And there are a couple of main reasons why you shouldn't be using that thing anyway.
1. It only supports 802.11g.
2. It only supports WEP encryption. Which is to say none at all. WEP is merely a speedbump if someone wants in your network.

A new one will be faster and more secure.
