All Usb ports have malfunctioned!

Hello! I use a dell inspiron 15 n5050 laptop running windows 8. when i first installed windows 8 everything was okay but almost a year later all the usb ports have malfunctioned and its like it doesn't even show that a device is connected. not even an error message.
any one have this issue?

In the device manager it shows that all the drivers are installed and working properly. no exclamation marks.
I tried to update the drivers but it says they are up to date

Hmm, have you confirmed this device works in other computers? If so or if multiple devices aren't working heres what to try. (Have had mixed success with this)

Go into device manager, expand USB and right click all of the root hubs and uninstall them. Once they are all uninstalled, restart and they should reinstall themselves.

That might fix it.

Probably should have asked this first but if you have something that say lights up or has an LED when it receives power, does it light up?

Thanks mouse24 but ive tried all that. I unistalled and then let it automatically reinstall the drivers. Then i tried uninstalling and then restarting. still nada.
Is it a windows 8 issue or do have some sort of virus disabling the ports??
I have tried with many usb devices that work in other systems so thats not it.
